02 Jul 2024 Under the Green-Ag project, Van Mahotsav Week was celebrated from 2 to 7 July 2024, across 50 Green-Eco clubs in priority villages within the Similipal Landscape, Odisha. This annual event aims to enhance awareness regarding the significance of plantation for sustainable forest management. This year, Van Mahotsav was celebrated with a focus on creating awareness among the studentson how to safeguard the environment. During the week, various activities were organized, including sapling plantation, community sensitization rallies, drawing, painting competitions and quizzes on medicinal plants and their uses in local schools. Approximately 1,500 students, 500 teachers, and members of the Village Implementation Committee participated in these activities. A total of 1,000 trees, including medicinal species such as Amla, Baula, and Neem, were planted by students and VIC members. Winners of the competitions were recognized by awarding small token prizes. Informative flyers, highlighting the importance of participating in Vana Mahotsav Week, were prepared in the Odia language and distributed among school students. This initiative engaged young minds in environmental conservation while integrating community involvement through educational activities, contributing to the broader goals of the Green Ag project in sustainable forest management.
