Project Director, GEF-6 cum Additional Secretary, Watersheds Department, Govt. of Uttarakhand visits Green-Ag landscape, Similapal, Odisha

Mrs Namami Bansal (IAS), Project Director of the Green-Ag (GEF 6) Project, Corbett Rajaji Landscape and Additional Secretary of the Watersheds Department, Government of Uttarakhand, visited the Similpal Landscape in Mayurbhanj, Odisha on 10 February 2024. The primary objective of the visit was to gain insights into cross-sectoral interventions, particularly the implementation of the Green Landscape Management Plan (GLMP) in Similipal, Odisha.
During her visit, Mrs Bansal observed the Sustainable Land Management Model in Godipokhari village, Shamakhunta block adopted under the project. The model works towards enhancing soil health, water retention, and climate resilience through various soil and water conservation activities. These activities include water harvesting structures, contour terracing, recharge pits, staggered trenches, and loose boulder structures.
Mrs Bansal witnessed the collaborative efforts between various government departments under the Green-Ag project which included activities such as plantation drives, promotion of local crop varieties, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including medicinal plant cultivation and land development. She also visited community initiatives such as vermicompost units, on-farm inputs, goat sheds, and poultry units in Godipokhari village.
Following the field visit, Mrs Bansal participated in an interactive session with members of the Technical Support Group (TSG) from different departments. Discussions focused on Odisha's approaches to sustainable agriculture, livestock management, and natural resource management, as well as financial accomplishments and convergence of ongoing schemes.
Mrs Bansal appreciated the efforts undertaken by the Green-Ag project team in Odisha and emphasized the importance of sharing knowledge across landscapes.
